Brightcove recently announced a collaboration with Rovi, the experts behind DivX. The goal of this partnership is to support and promote the adoption of the latest video compression standards in the market. As part of this collaboration, Brightcove has licensed Rovi’s DivX High-Efficiency Video Encoding (HEVC) technology. Rovi’s DivX solution is a critical foundation for streaming high-quality video and is considered a key driver for delivering high-resolution 4K content on the latest Ultra HD displays.
As the successor to the H.264/MPEG-4 AVC video compression format, DivX HEVC offers double the data compression rates of previous standards. This advancement enables the delivery of high-quality video at lower bit rates, paving the way for more efficient streaming solutions. Through this partnership with Rovi, Brightcove aims to expand its support for the MPEG format—already widely used in the broadcast industry—while preparing for the future of high-quality video with HEVC.
Brightcove plans to integrate DivX HEVC into its Zencoder cloud-based service, allowing publishers to take advantage of the advanced compression efficiency of the HEVC format. This integration will soon enable support for Ultra HD and 4K content on all devices. Additionally, Brightcove intends to implement a range of other formats and codecs based on the robust MainConcept software development kits (SDKs) for professional content creators, including the MainConcept HEVC SDK.
